Joan Stern
College Admissions Advisor
College Admissions Advisor
Joan Stern became interested in college admissions consulting in 2005 while preparing to introduce her son, a high school junior, to his college selection and application adventure. Highly motivated and intensely focused on “getting it right” in supporting her son, she began her own education through important discussions with high school counseling staff and teachers, college teachers and admissions officers, college admission and alumni interviewers, and recently-admitted college freshman and their families.
Her intense interest in college advising continued as she assisted friends through the college application process as well as her daughter two years later. Once both of her kids were away in college, Joan continued her education by receiving a Certificate in College Counseling through UCLA Extension. In 2010, Joan founded College Endeavors LLC and now works with a limited number of high school and community college transfer students each year, mostly through referrals from former and current clients.
Prior to college advising, Joan was a Vice President, Human Resources for a 60,000-employee company. Her responsibilities included recruiting and hiring, career counseling and development, employee welfare, compensation, employee benefits, and employment law. She received her BA from UCLA and is a member of the UCLA Alumni Association.
Joan is also a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC).
