Authentic College Admission
From one of my favorite columnists, Brennan Barnard, an important article about understanding who you are as an applicant. Important information for high school seniors and juniors.

Here is an opinion piece from the New York Times. Rather than focusing on what we are losing or may have lost during the pandemic, use this time to "seize the moment" and be useful to our families, communities, and the world.
Seize the Moment Here is an important article by one of my favorite columnists, Brennan Barnard. Consider why you want to go to college, how you and your family will pay for it, and how you can step outside the "norms" in a year when nothing is normal.
Declaring Independence in College Admission, from Forbes Many college students feel they are in "limbo" as colleges roll out plans for fall. From the Washington Post.
Coronavirus Limbo We know that college admissions will look different in fall, when admissions officers review applications without test scores, limited activities, and possibly a semester with pass/no pass grading. This article has helpful tips for the Class of 2021. But perhaps most important is the very last line: "We get it." Admissions offices understand that everyone's application will look different.

GT Blog Last week, I posted information about the University of California's decision to be test-optional for two years, then test-blind for two years. This article repeats much of that information, but scroll down to see the chart at the end; it helps clarify what's ahead.
UC and the SAT/ACT Given the recent issues with at-home AP exams, I can imagine that colleges will accept the SAT and ACT taken at home, even with security measures in place. Here is an article from the Boston Globe:
Giving Remote SAT and ACT Exams is a Bad idea Colleges across the country are considering their options for fall. Ithaca College announced an October start date, while Notre Dame University plans to start earlier. Here are the considerations at the University of Kentucky, from The NY Times.
College in the Fall of 2020 While most students have been able to take and submit their AP exams, many are reporting issues with the technology or the inability to complete to make their final submission. This definitely will have an impact on the College Board or ACT as they consider "at home" testing for the longer SAT and ACT exams.
Washington Post - Problems with the AP Exams The last of three articles by Brennan Barnard highlighting comments from admissions officers across the country.
We Get It! Part 3 Part 2 of this article by Brennan Barnard: We Get It! Part 2
Be sure to read all three parts of Brennan Barnard's article on perspectives from deans of admission. The bottom line: Admissions offices are staffed with human beings! They understand what high school students are dealing with and they will be accommodating in the admissions process. Part 1 from Forbes: We Get It!
The Common Application has just announced that there will not be changes to the essay prompts in the application cycle that opens in August 2020. Here is the article that explains their survey and decision to keep the prompts the same: www.commonapp.org/blog/common-app-2020-2021-essay-prompts
