The University of California is 150 years old! Check out this interesting article and be sure to click on the "timeline" of its development over the years.
www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/uc-celebrates-150-years-pioneering-better-future?utm_source=fiat-lux&utm_medium=internal-email&utm_campaign=article-general&utm_content=text Once again, UCLA and the UC system received a record number of freshman applications for Fall 2018 admissions.
www.latimes.com/local/education/higher-ed/la-me-edu-ucla-applicants-20171214-story.html Applications for both the University of California and the Cal State University system are due tonight by 11:59 p.m. PST. UC and CSU also need your SAT or ACT scores. You can send your scores to one UC campus and one CSU campus and they will be sent to all campuses to which you are applying. Transcripts and letters of recommendation are not accepted by either system. However, UC Berkeley may request letters of recommendation from select students, after you submit your application. Be sure to check your email for confirmation that your application has been received and information about setting up your applicant portals.
The University of California will begin accepting applications tomorrow morning, November 1, for the 2018-19 school year. Application deadline is November 30, but I always recommend submitting it before Thanksgiving!
admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/apply-online/ Just wanted to share some great insights about the UC application.
medium.com/@CalAdmissions/3-things-i-wish-applicants-knew-one-applicant-readers-perspective-69a116003c89 I just attended a University of California conference to get updates on each campus. UC Berkeley has always had an outstanding undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Business, offered through their Haas School of Business. Entrance into that program has been, and still is, at the junior level after completing pre-requisites and submitting an application. Berkeley recently added a very specialized Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MET) major for entering freshman, allowing them to combine management, business, and engineering and receive two Bachelor-level degrees. For fall 2018, Cal will be offering another business program for entering freshman, called Global Management. I am sure it will be highly competitive and students will start in the summer after high school graduation and study abroad during their first semester at Berkeley. Check it out here: haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/gmp.html
I was at UC San Diego last weekend and noticed a lot of construction going on. So I dug into UCSD news to get a glimpse of upcoming additions and changes to the campus.
ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/feature/changing_the_face_of_campus?utm_campaign=thisweek&utm_medium=email&utm_source=tw-2017-05-18 Info from the UC's about the "unpredictability" of predicting how many admitted students will actually attend.
www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-uc-enrollment-predict-20170807-story.html Glad to see that UC Irvine reinstated the students whose transcripts may not have been received in time. And a reminder to all incoming high school seniors that your senior grades do matter, so start the school year strong and continue to the end!
news.uci.edu/2017/08/02/message-from-uci-chancellor-about-current-admission-issues/ If you are touring campus or just visiting the Bay Area, be sure to take a ride to the top of UC Berkeley's Campanile, especially on a clear day.
news.berkeley.edu/2016/10/21/a-day-in-the-life-of-the-campanile/ The latest news from the University of California and letters of recommendation. Berkeley has been requesting letters for the last two years and we will see if the others institute this practice during the upcoming application cycle. It is important to know that the new personal insight questions, in place of personal statements, allow students to share multiple sides of their personality and involvements.
www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-uc-regents-recommend-letters-20170712-story.html Now that summer is here, it's time to begin working on the UC Personal Insight Questions. You have 8 questions to choose from, but you only need to answer 4, each 350 words or less. It's never too early to start. Check out the prompts here:
